The Solaris Operating Environment was developed by Sun Microsystems and is available for Intel or SPARC^TM architectures. Solaris has been carefully engineered to deliver a reliable, high-performance, scalable, and secure platform on which to develop and deploy desktop and server applications.

Xycom Automation in conjunction with American Logic Machines has developed an easy-to-use Solaris VMEbus Development Kit (VDK) for its latest generation of VMEbus PC processors. The Solaris VDK is based on the theory of functional integration. The VDK defines the basic element to be an integration object (I.O.) module. An integrator can use the I.O. module of each component to build an application specific computer of choice. The VDK also provides tools to custom build front-end applications.
